Disappearing messages is an optional feature you can turn on for more privacy. When you enable disappearing messages, you can set messages to disappear 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days after the time they are sent, unless that message is kept.
In the latter half of 2020, WhatsApp made vanishing messages a feature of its platform. The business then improved the function by giving you the option to make disappearing messages the default setting for all new chats. It also included new settings for how long a message would remain valid, ranging from 24 hours to 7 days. However, there can be instances in which you want to keep a message that vanishes for later use. With "Keep In Chat," WhatsApp is now able to do this.
You can now bookmark a message or piece of media that is about to disappear on WhatsApp for later access. But if you do, the sender will be informed and will need to give their consent. The message will expire after the designated period if they don't respond.
In this approach, WhatsApp's solution makes sure that the privacy and security advantages of disappearing messages are not compromised by its Keep In Chat function. Whether a communication can be stored or not is always up to the sender to decide.
Messages that you can store will display a bookmark icon in the WhatsApp chat, which is accessible to both you and the sender of the message. Additionally, they are arranged by discussions in the Kept Messages folder, where you can access them.
As early as May 2022, WhatsApp was seen working on a veto for communications that vanished. Although 15 additional time duration options for disappearing messages were recently discovered being worked on by the Meta-owned messaging platform, they are not included in today's statement.
In the upcoming weeks, Keep in Chat will be made available to all WhatsApp users internationally. Check out our tutorial on how to send disappearing messages on WhatsApp if you're unsure how to use messages that expire after a predetermined period of time.
